A: We offer a wide range of services that are designed to help our clients address their mental health issues effectively and in a safe and supportive environment. Anyone who needs therapy, or counselling can benefit from our services, including individuals, couples, families, friend groups, employees, students, and seniors. Medical professionals and general practitioners can refer us to new or existing clients. However, you can also self-book and do not need a referral from your GP. This means anyone can receive our services without the recommendation of other health professionals.
Anyone could benefit from seeking help if they are experiencing signs or symptoms associated with mental health problems such as anxiety disorders, depression, low self-esteem, and/or stress. Some of the common feelings that you might feel under these circumstances are anger, disbelief, hopelessness, and fearfulness.
Common reasons people visit a therapist include seeking help to address personal challenges, such as coping with anxiety, depression, or ; resolving relationship issues; relieving stress and tension caused by work or home life; and addressing traumatic experiences. Additionally, our therapists provide services for clients who suffer from specific mental health conditions (e.g., Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder [PTSD] or Phobias).
No diagnosis is required for treatment with us. All clients are welcome regardless of their current mental health status or history. There is value in exploring other therapists, especially if you are unhappy with the results you current see or want a different perspective. Often, the best therapy is done when not in crisis, when you can really observe and explore any patterns that might be holding you back in life.
These are various treatments that help people deal with issues and emotions that can be problematic or distressing. We often use a combination of talk therapies (such as cognitive-behavioural or interpersonal) and other techniques like behavioural experiments, observational tasks, goal and intention setting, mindfulness exercises and communication coaching to address our client’s specific concerns or symptoms. You don’t need to wait for any specific time frame to begin seeing a therapist. If you are experiencing significant challenges in your well-being, that have not responded favourably to prior interventions such as medications or self-help books/guides, then we recommend reaching out as soon as possible. Seeking professional help sooner can make all the difference, like changing the course of your life’s ship by 5 degrees. In a few years, it can change your life’s trajectory.
The first step is to discuss your concerns and symptoms with your local GP. They will be able to assess whether therapy or counselling may be the best option for you, based on your individual . However, if you prefer, we also accept self-referral. You may avail yourself of any of our services withouta recommendation from other health professionals.
Results vary depending on the individual, but most people find that they improve significantly from their first few treatment sessions. It is often considered an ongoing process, so clients will likely continue to experience long-term benefits over time.
The cost of our service can vary depending on the frequency, length of individual sessions and the package you choose, but most sessions typically include individual or group tasks and various resource materials you can utilise after the session. We always aim to be solution focussed and give ‘homework’ to make sure you get the most out of the number of sessions you attend. This is a tried and tested technique, backed by research with the CBT technique.
We operate on flexible hours which allow you to fit therapy and counselling in around your commitments at home and at work. We can accommodate your appointment after-hours and on weekends so everyone can take advantage of our services at The Local Doctor Ivanhoe. Please note that being a small private practice, we will endeavour to suit your availability but will need to balance between both our clients’ and therapist’s availability.
